Storytime...

Today is officially my first day back at work!  I actually didn't think I'd find time to write my blog this week because I've been so busy trying to get ready for my return to the class room.  I've also been fighting a cold all week which is why I decided to write about "storytime" - we've had a lot this week!  It's funny how your children can sense when you're feeling stressed...not only can they sense it, they also start to respond to your behaviour.  As a result, we've had several meltdowns this week which lead to a lot of cuddles on the couch - and lots of good books! Growing up, I was never a true reader...and I've never really understood the concept of getting "lost" in a book.  My mother would say to me, "If you only read half as much as you do arts and crafts, you could be the next Prime Minister".  Perhaps there was some truth to what she said but regardless ,  I went on to read several hundred books

Sunny, Sunny Days

The whole Gang!  (Georgia and baby Jack were sleeping)   It seems like spring is finally here!  The days are getting longer, my neighbours have come out of hibernation, we packed away the last of our winter clothing and the bugs are back.  We've also been lucky this past week with the weather...it was almost like we skipped spring and went straight to summer.  I absolutely love the warmer weather but I'm a little bit of a worry wart when it comes to sun safety.  After being diagnosed with Melanoma nearly three years ago, I'm now very diligent when it comes to sun protection and my family...last weekend was an unfortunate exception. Last Sunday my family and I spent nearly the entire day outside...playing baseball, cleaning the cars, riding bikes, visiting with friends and neighbours and we enjoyed our first barbeque of the season!  It really was the perfect day...however, that evening while bathing the kids, I noticed my son's neck was a little red.  It didn&

Documenting Your Baby's First Year

Baby Jack - On his "0" birthday I can honestly say...this has been the fastest year of my life!  I mean where does the time go??  That quote, "the days are long but the years are short" - it couldn't be more true.  Time certainly does fly by, which is why I decided to focus this week's blog on how and why you should take the time to document your baby's first year.  With a little over 3 weeks until Jack's big day, I thought it would be fitting to look at different options for documenting all those special moments during their first year.  I'll also share some of the ways I've chosen to capture those memories If I asked my mother how she documented my first year she would pull out one of those old photo albums where all the pictures were stuck to the page and covered with a protective clear plastic.  Her sweet messages were hand written with love and all the photos were dated with point form notes (paying tribute to all of

Puppy Love

We adopted our giant fur ball when he was only 8 months old.  Weighing in at just under 60 pounds and full of energy...he was the best addition to our little home.  At the time, Jordan and I weren't even married.  Getting a dog seemed like the perfect next step in our relationship...however, adopting Cody also seemed to get the ball rolling on other things!  Within days we were engaged and three weeks later we found out I was pregnant - life was about to get really exciting!  But through it all, Cody was given the best life we could give him.  Fast forward 5 years, we now have 3 kids, a happy marriage and a 90 pound goldendoodle who really is the greatest dog I've ever met.  Sure, I'm a little biased, but what dog owner isn't?    Looking back he was my number one running buddy, best friend to our oldest son, my husband's favourite sidekick - and he had the best spot on our bed! ...right in the middle!  I find it so hard to say and even harder to write...but t
