Happy Halloweeen!

I've been meaning to post this blog for a few days but I've been so busy prepping for Halloween.  It's not even a real Holiday but sometimes I feel like it is.  With the number of things I put on my to do list, you would think it's Christmas - just a whole lot cheaper...and not nearly as stressful.  At Halloween I love to get creative with costumes, baking and decorating.  I totally feel in my element when I'm busy creating and although I often loose countless hours of sleep in the process, it's all worth it when I see those big smiles appear on all of my children. It's also a great time of year to get involved in events around your community.  This past weekend we took the entire family to our local community centre for their annual Freaky Fright Night .  We also ran into Batman (and his Batmobile) while visiting the Ford   Dealership in town.  Last but not least, we participated in a running race that took place in our very own neighbourhood!

Our Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving this year felt like summer in October.  It was the most beautiful weekend!  We got to spend so much time with family and friends doing one of the things we love most - entertaining.  And not just one evening...we got to be hosts for an entire weekend.  One of my best childhood friends arrived with her family on Saturday afternoon kicking off the holiday weekend celebrations. A little background info:   This year marks 30 years of friendship.  We met in grade 1 and basically have been each others besties ever since.  She's the kind of friend I can go months without talking to, but when we have the chance to get together it's as though time hasn't changed a thing.  I know no matter what, we'll always be there for each other and the best part - now we get the chance to see our children develop friendships.  Our home was definitely a crazy house Thanksgiving weekend but I couldn't have been happier, watching our kids run wild while having the

Don Olson Classic 2017

Fall race season is finally here!  To get things started I took the kiddies to Albion Hills the last weekend of September for the Don Olson Classic .  This is a race event I have been a part of since its beginning in 2010.  Over the years I have seen it grow and flourish into the race spectacle it has become...a true coming together of family and friends, the very best volunteers, coaches and athletes both young and old.  Add in some great prizes, yummy treats, the ideal setting for a trail run, affordable entries fees and family friendly amenities, and you've got yourself a great race!  All in memory of an amazing coach and friend who lost his battle to cancer 4 years ago.  For a complete race review you can read my blog from last year:  http://creativelyk.blogspot.ca/2016/10/don-olson-classic-race-review.html This was my first year not running the 5K race, but my oldest son Hudson participated in the 2.5K event and once again I had the opportunity to run with him as a

Homemade Lemonade

Holy heat wave we've been experiencing here in Ontario this past September and just when I thought it was going to end we had the most beautiful weather this past weekend.  Perfectly coinciding with our Canadian Thanksgiving.  We hosted this year and with the help of family and friends it was a huge success!  Stay tuned later this month for photos from the celebration. This week I wanted to share a couple recipes.  A couple weeks ago my hubby decided he wanted to make homemade lemonade.  It was very much a spur of the moment decision, but considering it was over 35 degrees that day with the humidex, we decided to make it happen.  After taking the kids for ice cream we headed to the grocery store and bought $17 in lemons (which was way too many -ha! ...we still have some leftover).  When we arrived home we googled a few recipes.  This was the first one we came across:  http://allrecipes.com/recipe/32385/best-lemonade-ever/ So I always knew lemonade had a lot o
