Don Olson Classic 2017

Fall race season is finally here!  To get things started I took the kiddies to Albion Hills the last weekend of September for the Don Olson Classic.  This is a race event I have been a part of since its beginning in 2010.  Over the years I have seen it grow and flourish into the race spectacle it has become...a true coming together of family and friends, the very best volunteers, coaches and athletes both young and old.  Add in some great prizes, yummy treats, the ideal setting for a trail run, affordable entries fees and family friendly amenities, and you've got yourself a great race!  All in memory of an amazing coach and friend who lost his battle to cancer 4 years ago.  For a complete race review you can read my blog from last year:  http://creativelyk.blogspot.ca/2016/10/don-olson-classic-race-review.html
This was my first year not running the 5K race, but my oldest son Hudson participated in the 2.5K event and once again I had the opportunity to run with him as a volunteer on the course.  Still being one of the youngest registered I wanted to ensure he kept a reasonable pace (without tiring himself out too early on).  All was going really well until one of the other athletes en route took a bad fall.  As much as I wanted to continue on with my own son, I knew as a volunteer I had other priorities.  As I helped the other athlete I gave Hudson a quick pep talk and a thumbs up..."you're going to have to finish this one on your own", I told him.  And with that he was off!  I was so proud of him for continuing the race and not only that, but he actually did really well.  I guess from here on in he won't be needing me by his side come race day...which brings me so much joy.  As much as I love running with him, I'm excited he's found the confidence to accomplish his running goals on his own terms.  Next year he plans on racing against me, not with me...somehow he thinks he can beat me -ha!
After the run we were sure to stay and cheer on my sister-in-law as well as other friends competing in the 5K event.  It was such a fun, exciting and beautiful morning.  I was actually a little concerned things wouldn't go smoothly, but with the help of friends and family I managed keep all 4 kids busy and content.

Be sure to save the date for next year's event, being held on September 29th, 2018.  I hope to see you there!  For more information you can checkout their website:  http://www.310running.com/don-olson-classic/
Have a great weekend!

To My Grandpa on his 100th Birthday

On Sunday my grandfather turned 100 and we had a beautiful celebration.  I promise to post photos from the event once they are ready...I can hardly wait to see them!  Today I decided to share my speech completely unaltered.  If it sounds like I'm talking, it's because I literally recorded myself talking to myself about my grandpa...then I typed out what I said - almost word for word.  It truly helped me to speak from the heart and talk about the memories I'll have forever...   For my grandpa on his 100 th birthday…   My grandfather was born on February 18 th , 1918…fast forward about 64 years, and that’s when I came into the picture.   And that’s where I’m going to start.   My grandfather has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember.   At a very young age my mom and I moved into a neighbourhood in North Mississauga.   Not long after my grandparents moved into their home just one st...

On A Positive Note

I hope everyone is staying home and staying healthy.  What an unbelievable time we are living in right now.  Most days seem completely manageable, but some days I question if I'm even going to make to the next🤔. Despite this crazy, chaotic, some days memorable, other days questionable, and needless to say - an unforgettable period in our lives, I have managed to recognize some of the more positive things...in no particular order. 1.  My kids can and do eat peanut butter every single day for lunch #noallergies #winning  2.  After being a stay at home mom for the majority of the past 9 years, I was questioning if I was really ready to step back into my career as a teacher...it's only day 23 of this quarantine - but yup it's been determined, I am definitely ready to go back to work. 3.  I think after all this, those parents who maybe didn't fully appreciate teachers or comprehend the full extent of what they do - will now perhaps have a c...

Easter 2020

Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter in quarantine!   So Friday morning I actually made my kids dress up and do a quick photoshoot on our front porch.  Just because we're not celebrating with family this year, doesn't mean all of our traditions have to be put on hold😜 My two girls were pretty excited to wear new matching dresses, so I didn't have any issues getting them ready.  My little guy Jack loves putting gel in his hair, so he was pretty easy to convince as well.  As for my oldest, he absolutely hates getting dressed up for anything, so basically I gave him an ultimatum...extra schoolwork next week or a few pictures - and you have to smile!  He obviously went with the second choice (and he gave me the best smile ever) ha!   Despite the freezing cold temperatures that morning, we actually got some really cute photos...in record breaking time! No matter how you're celebrating this year, may you ...
