Well, that whole experience got me thinking for the rest of the day and into the evening. It's funny how a simple conversation can trigger your memory and motivate you to begin doing a little research.
In my early twenties I had the opportunity to attend a summer camp, through my program at York University. One of the girls I met that week later went on to become one of my good friends...and a couple years later she actually introduced me to my husband. One evening during one of our late night adventures we found ourselves hanging out with an amazing group of older adults (between the ages of 30 and 65). They were also spending the week up north participating in everything from canoeing and water skiing to camp fires, talent shows and last night banquets. The only difference was...their trip included a late night open bar! My girlfriend and I promised each other that someday when we were older we would return to camp and party like we were young again -ha!
Fast forward almost 15 years and here I am contemplating the idea all over again - this time it's my hubby and I planning the trip! While it's still probably another few years off, we spent a couple evenings this week researching the possibilities, and to be honest it's an adventure we definitely plan to embark on...when our kids are a little older of course. The longest we've spent away from home (kid free) in the past 5 years is one night, so when the opportunity does arise it will be well worth the wait.
Here are the 3 camps we have narrowed it down to:

- My hubby and I love to socialize and meet new people. We're definitely not the shy couple...we're always taking the time to introduce ourselves to complete strangers - no matter where we are!
- We both love the outdoors.
- We don't care about first class accommodations - we'll take a rustic cabin and bunk beds any day.
- We are both very competitive by nature and camp activities often involve a little friendly competition.
- Prices are all very affordable considering you're basically paying for an all inclusive weekend...some camps offer gourmet chefs, open bars all weekend long and of course some of the most beautiful views in Ontario's cottage country.
It may seem a little out of place to be writing about summer camp in the middle of December but most camps open their enrolment and registration early in the new year - sometimes as early as January 1st. So if this is something that might interest you now or in the near future, be sure to subscribe to their email lists for up-to-date information and registration deadlines.
Summer camp was always a highlight of my summer vacation and I'll never forget the opportunities I had, the skills I developed, the songs I learned and the friends I made. The idea of being able to return to camp and experience the adventure all over again (with my hubby) almost seems surreal...but when the time does comes we'll be ready and waiting!
A couple oldies from the summer of 1995!
