100 Years Loved

As many of you know my grandfather (on my mom's side) turned 100 on February 18th.  Over the years we have acknowledged each of his birthdays, usually a small celebration and only immediate family.  This was always at his request.  However we made him promise that if he made it to 100, we were going to throw him one of the best parties he had ever been to.  And so...that's exactly what we did.

It was the most beautiful celebration of his life.  He was surrounded by family and friends who had arrived from both near and far.  I was overwhelmed by the number of people who took time out of their busy lives to celebrate with him.  It was simply the greatest feeling seeing him all dressed up in his suit and tie, corsage on his jacket and the biggest smile across his face.  His eyes lit up every time he turned to greet a family member, an old friend or a surprise guest.  His entire life he's always been one to put others first, but that day we went above and beyond to ensure our guest of honour had the spotlight.

We spent weeks preparing for the event.  My mom, my aunts, my husband and myself all contributed - and the final result was everything we had envisioned.  While my husband and I made the majority of the decorations, we did have help from some amazing people.

The party was held at The Caledon Estates.  It had been nearly 10 years since I had been there, but I was beyond impressed with how beautiful the room looked and the staff were very friendly.

Melissa took care of all things made from paper...she made the amazing cake topper, cupcake toppers, vintage airplane photo pins, stickers for the treat bags and a few signs.  She was an absolute pleasure to work with!

Shannon baked all the cupcakes.  All of her treats are always so beautiful and very tasty!
Of course we hired Tim to take all the photos...and as always he did a wonderful job.

We ordered all the balloons from Party Magic in Bolton.  They were a little pricey but exactly what we were looking for and they ready on time (They lasted almost 3 weeks!)

I made the photo guestbook through shutterfly and the quality was exceptional.  My only concern was that it almost didn't arrive on time, but I should have ordered earlier - lesson learned.

Here are some of my favourite photos from the event...there were so many good ones to choose from!

Have a great week!

To My Grandpa on his 100th Birthday

On Sunday my grandfather turned 100 and we had a beautiful celebration.  I promise to post photos from the event once they are ready...I can hardly wait to see them!  Today I decided to share my speech completely unaltered.  If it sounds like I'm talking, it's because I literally recorded myself talking to myself about my grandpa...then I typed out what I said - almost word for word.  It truly helped me to speak from the heart and talk about the memories I'll have forever...   For my grandpa on his 100 th birthday…   My grandfather was born on February 18 th , 1918…fast forward about 64 years, and that’s when I came into the picture.   And that’s where I’m going to start.   My grandfather has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember.   At a very young age my mom and I moved into a neighbourhood in North Mississauga.   Not long after my grandparents moved into their home just one st...

Tasca Park

A couple weeks ago it was a beautiful Sunday morning and all I wanted to do was pack up the car with the entire family and head out to enjoy the day.  I was thinking something really fun - like heading to Center Island.  The reality was we were completely unprepared for any kind of outing...especially one that required planning ahead and being organized.  Instead we decided to save our Island adventure for another day (maybe even another year -ha!) and got to work cleaning up some things around the house.  All those really boring things I hate doing on a Sunday, but those are the same things you're grateful you did when Monday morning rolls around.    By the afternoon we were feeling ready and prepped for the week ahead but I still had that desire to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  My hubby and I decided to throw the diaper bag in the car, fill up the water bottles and head out to one of the local parks in Caledon...

Last Minute Ideas for your Christmas Elf

A little mid-week blog post…Just like last year I wanted to share some quick and easy last minute Elf on the Shelf ideas.   I totally stole some of these ideas from friends and family but tis the season for sharing!   Enjoy!! Ball Pit!  Elves only! I've been doing a lot of yoga lately so I thought it would be fun if our Elf joined in on the fun! Our little guy Jack loved this one!  He wanted Timbit to wash all his cars! I've seen this one used a few times and I think it's a great idea!  The kids were really excited to fill the box and once it was full, they started a second one. They kiddies played tic tac toe all day!  And then they ate the marshmallows (I used edible ink). We let our oldest three kids finish the pack of bubblegum!  So of course this idea was a huge hit.  The count-down to Christmas is on...Enjoy the rest of the week!
