Don Olson Classic Race Review

...and they're off! This past weekend I participated in the Don Olson Classic (DOC) 2.5K and 5K Trail Race .  This is an event I've been attending since it's inaugural year in 2010.  In it's opening season the race was called the Fall 5 and today it is now named in honour of one of my dear friends and running coaches, Don Olson.  In 2013, Don passed away from cancer.  That year the event was re-named the Don Olson Classic in order to pay tribute to an incredible athlete and wonderful coach for 310 Running .  This race is also a non-profit event in support of Bethell Hospice Foundation - a charity that was selected by Don himself. My Race Review The Event Itself The Don Olson Classic is an event hosted by 310 Running .  310 Running is a non-profit athletics club operating out of Bolton, Ontario.  My good friend and head coach of 310, Scott Skimming had a vision years ago of hosting a local running...

Our Busy Box...

It's been a very busy September for our family...lots of change, new opportunities and several first experiences.  Hudson started hockey, piano and his senior kindergarten year at a new school.  Georgia was introduced to ballet, jazz and returned for another session at gymnastics.  Last but not least, baby Jack and Georgia started pre-school.  This has probably been the most difficult change for our family, but new routines have encouraged us to become extremely organized and most importantly prepared - for anything! With the recent introduction of several extra-curricular activities, it didn't take long for me to recognize one area that required some minor adjustments - in regards to planning and preparation.  Unfortunately the majority of programs and activities our kids are involved in occur during my husband's work hours.  Which means I'm often on my own driving 3 kids around town to all of their activities.  Getting them ...

Fall Bucket List

We spent our last long weekend of summer in the Kawartha's visiting family.  One of the highlights of our weekend away was attending the Kinmount Fair.  Our family is no stranger to small-town community events.  Every year we look forward to the Fall Fair in our own community - so you can imagine how excited our kids were when we arrived in Kinmount, bright and early Sunday morning.  They had a blast...exciting games and endless rides, hot dogs and lemonade, face painting, first time trying cotton candy...can you believe it?... they didn't like it!, visiting the firefighters and feeding the animals.  By noon they were all exhausted from the morning festivities- mommy and daddy enjoyed a very quiet car ride home.  We can count on one hand the number of times all three kids have fallen asleep at the same time - it's a very rare event indeed, but my hubby and I happily took some time to begin discussing our f...

His First Day

I honestly considered skipping my blog this week and taking a break...not so much due to lack of time (although it's been a very hectic week!), but rather I was afraid to face my own emotions.  I knew once I started writing I would be forced to really think about how I was feeling and finding the motivation to get started was difficult. But here it goes... Last September my oldest son Hudson began Junior Kindergarten.  As hard as it was to "let go",  I knew the feelings I was experiencing were quite normal.  I was so excited for him to start school, meet new friends and begin his educational journey.  At the same time, I couldn't believe how fast 4 years had come and gone.  The night before school started I tucked him in and lay down beside him.  As he began to fall asleep I held him close and sang to him.  Something I used to do when he was a baby.  For some reason I couldn't leave him that night - I slept by his side until the...

Mud Hero Race Review

This is first for me...I've never written a race review so I'm really excited to share with you some advice, highlights and minor disappointments from last weekend's Mud Hero 2016. The Event Itself Mud Hero is an obstacle race on foot.  The series offers various event locations across Canada and two standard race distances.  A 6km course as well as an ultra 10km course for the more seasoned athlete.  They also offer a children's event geared towards your little athletes ages 4 to 13.  It's basically a downsized version of the adult event.  Here's the awesome part and what makes the race extremely unique...by the end of the course you'll be completely covered in mud - head to toe! Although this race is offered nationwide, my team participated in their Toronto North Event at Albion Hills in Caledon, Ontario.  In regards to weather, all of their events are offered through the summer months so seasonal temperatu...
